FAQ

Where will the games be played, and when?

The home pitch for FYR is at Golden Hill Elementary School, 732 Barris Drive Fullerton.  High School Players will travel to northern San Diego county and the Palm Springs area once during the season for 'away' games.  If the teams make it to the HS championships, they will travel again to a location TBA for the playoffs at the end of the season.  The Junior Rugby teams will travel within Orange County and North San Diego County.. More than 50% of our matches are played at our home pitch in Fullerton. Most games and tournaments will be on Saturdays, with an occasional game/tournament being played on a Sunday.

Where can I check the schedule?

The schedule can be accessed by clicking the button on the left side of the Home page.  It is constantly updated, and any changes to matches will be reflected there.

My child has never played rugby before - is it hard to learn?

Almost all of the players that join have never played rugby before, and more than half that number have never seen rugby match before.  The FYR coaching staff will teach the player everything he/she needs to know before the player actually plays against an opposing team.

When are practices?

The High School Boys, U-16 Boys, and U-19 Girls teams practice twice a week under lights.  The teams will also have pre-season practice on some Saturday mornings.  The Junior rugby teams will practice once or twice a week at the home pitch.

What equipment do I need to bring for practice?

A mouth guard is mandatory for all players.  You will not be allowed to practice or play in any match without a mouth guard.  Cleats are required for all tackle teams, and sports shoes or cleats are required for all others.  Shorts are required  for all practices, and jeans, long pants, or jewelry is not permitted at practice for safety reasons. It is recommended that you purchase a few extra mouth guards, mould them, and keep it in your kit bag.  Your jersey and socks may not be worn for practice until the season ends.

Why is it mandatory for at least one parent to volunteer?

Fullerton Youth Rugby is a volunteer organization and no one gets paid. It is only with volunteers that we can get the logistical support to organize the seasons activities for the players.  A parent/guardian has the choice of volunteering at least two days for the whole season or playing a more active role by volunteering for an official position in the organization.  Whatever position you volunteer for, it is your child that benefits from the results.

What type of gear or safety equipment do I need?

A mouth guard is mandatory for all players.  All players playing tackle rugby will have to purchase black Barbarian JSL 4" inseam shorts WITH THE FYR LOGO ON THE LEFT LEG.  These shorts can be purchased from the Equipment Coordinator.  Scrum caps and shoulder pads are optional, and can be purchased on the internet.

Do you need Sponsors?

Sponsors and grants play a big role in our  organization, and without them, we cannot survive.  Our expenses far exceed the registration fee charged per player.
